Indie rock duo Whitehorse to visit London

Indie rock band Whitehorse is set to visit London for a conference later this month.

Whitehorse is the husband-and-wife duo of Luke Doucet and Melissa McClelland. They are based not out of the Northwest Territories but rather Hamilton, Ontario, and both had prior careers as solo singer-songwriters.

Each performs with a number of instruments during live performances, including guitars, keyboards, drums and vocals, as well as using devices like live drum looping. Their work is described and marketed using unusual terms like ‘space cowboy twang’, ‘intergalactic blues grooves’ and ‘searing Americana noir’.

Since forming in 2010, the pair has recorded five studio albums, most recently last year’s ‘A Whitehorse Winter Classic’. The duo has been shortlisted for the Polaris Music Prize and won the Juno Award for Adult Alternative Album of the Year in 2016 for their record ‘Leave No Bridge Unburned’.

Independent bands like Whitehorse that have unique sounds typically establish themselves through word of mouth as well as low-cost advertising tools like flyer printing and banner printing. These intimate shows are often a treat for fans whose musical taste is a little outside the mainstream.

Whitehorse will be playing at London’s Wolf Performance Hall on November 12. The tour will see the band perform around Ontario as well as a special show in Iqaluit, Nunavut.
