Cambridge has been selected as the site for a new facility that will use the latest in technology to build landing gears for a major aircraft manufacturer.
Héroux-Devtek has announced that it will be setting up a facility in Cambridge to manufacture and assemble the components as part of a contract with Boeing. This will be the first time that it has manufactured the complete landing gear assemblies for a large-sized commercial airplane.
The new state-of-the-art setup will provide jobs for 40 people, and will be built at a cost of $54.2 million – $7.05 million of which will be coming from the province as part of its commitment to help increase innovation, productivity, and exports. Ontario currently ranks as fifth in the world when it comes to this type of production.
As a new operation, it may well end up resulting in spinoff benefits for other businesses in the surrounding community. Firms that provide printing services, for items such as digital Business Cards, will be able to produce printed materials for the company’s new employees.
