After eight months of negotiations, an agreement has been reached between Bruce Power and Babcock & Wilcox. It’s a six-year contract that will see the latter providing long-term services to the former. It’s worth at least $600 million, and according to the president of Bruce Power, it could end up being worth even more in the long run, adding up to 100 highly skilled jobs to the area.
B&W currently employs 500 in Cambridge and the surrounding area, with the total number of positions throughout the country sitting at 700.
This is an extension of a long-term relationship that has existed between the two companies since 2001. B&W has supplied services to Bruce Nuclear Generating Station, which is the world’s largest nuclear power generation station. According to Bruce’s president, the new agreement ties in really well with the province’s plan for sustainable energy, and can bode well for the future.
