Copper is a material that can be used to create a wide variety of artistic projects, and a Cambridge area activity will introduce coppersmithing techniques to those who are new to the craft.
Two Smiths is preparing to host its Copper Wildflowers workshop, and the students who take part will receive instruction on the basics of crafting with the material. It will be a hands-on activity, and forging, forming, soldering, tapping and fold forming are just some of the techniques that will be taught.
The group of attendees will be guided through the process of creating stems, petals, stamens and leaves, and they will examine an assortment of plant Forms to draw inspiration from. They will prepare the pieces individually before assembling them into the completed piece, and at the end of the weekend, they will have an opportunity to take their three-dimensional sculpture home with them.
