The 2013 Mayor's Award for Excellence in Workforce Training and Development is currently accepting nominations until February 8.
The award, which was created in 1994 by the City of Cambridge and the Cambridge Training and Development Advisory Group, honors those companies which are dedicated to improving the knowledge, performance and skills of their employees.
A company can vote for itself and the recognition these companies receive from the City serves as an example to other businesses about the importance of giving current employees the opportunity for further job development and training; a better trained employee helps a company to stay competitive and become more successful.
The four categories for which awards will be handed out are Industrial and Manufacturing, which includes companies involved in processing materials and warehousing; Public and Not-for-Profit, which includes government, educational and health care institutions; Services, Hospitality and Retail, which includes hotels/motels, transport companies, financial services companies and retail stores; and Small Business, which includes companies of any kind with fewer than 50 employees. The awards will be handed out by the mayor at a later date which is yet to be announced.
Winning such an award can help a company attract much-needed employees and it can also result in increased business; a company which wins such an award can work with Cambridge printing companies to let the community at large know about the honor by way of Flyers.
