Big changes have been planned for Cambridge Memorial Hospital, and a recent announcement was made to let the public know that they are finally underway.
In a partnership between the hospital and Infrastructure Ontario, a fixed price contract has been signed with Bonfield Construction, which will take on the construction project. Now that all the contractual steps have been agreed upon and met, after a series of false starts, construction can finally begin.
The expansion and upgrades will take five years to complete, and will increase the number of beds from 52 to 197. There will also be improvements to the clinical services department, and the reception area and lobby, as well as the construction of a new medical education campus.
The work will be done in phases, with some of the changes coming more quickly than others.
This fall, the main entrance and public parking area will be shifted to the rear of the building, which used to be the staff parking lot and entrance.
Keeping the public abreast of what’s going on will be a big part of the project. With all the changes going on, they will need to know exactly where to go at the hospital to find what they need. Brochure printers will be able to provide informational materials that will let them know just what’s going on.
