Cambridge show to present out-of-this-world jazz
Nick Maclean’s SNAGGLE group will be presenting a unique take on jazz and funk in Cambridge this November with a show based on the science fiction works of Isaac Asimov.
The SNAGGLE group that will be performing is headed up by Juno-nominated pianist Maclean and the brass duo of Brownman and Marcus Ali, with rhythms by guitarist Jay Yoo, bassist Matt Gruebner, and drummer Adam Mansfield. The group combines the sounds of jazz and electric funk with the goal of creating otherworldly music, with inspirations ranging from Miles Davis to Range Against the Machine.
The group will be performing a suite of works based on Asimov’s classic science fiction works, including Foundation and I, Robot. The Cambridge appearance is part of a tour throughout local clubs in southern Ontario and Quebec. Instrumental concerts often feature themes or fanciful illustrations in promotional materials like flyer printing to add more colour and excitement to the show. “With performances swinging from Seldon–like moments of quiet, calculated clarity to cataclysmic bursts of energy worthy of a crumbling empire... Snaggle’s new repertoire doesn’t just pay homage to ASIMOV, it channels the spirit of his storytelling: daring, complex, and endlessly imaginative.”
