Cambridge event to gather carolers

Phil Kline’s Unsilent Night will be returning to Cambridge this December, providing a modern twist on the tradition of holiday caroling.

The event will kick off with opening remarks before traversing Cambridge’s downtown. Traditional holiday songs and other music recorded by Phil Kline will be played through speaker stations on the route, with participants invited to sing along and bring their own musical displays. Past participants have used everything from Bluetooth speakers to old boomboxes, with the goal of making as much noise as possible. Kline is an acclaimed American composer known for his creative pieces.

The walking route will also include light displays, interactive installations, and live performers wearing LED-equipped outfits. Participants are also encouraged to wear gear that lights up or shines to join in the visual display.

The Unsilent Night walk is held in 26 cities around the world each year, with Cambridge being the best-attended one. Last year’s event was nominated for the Canadian Special Events awards for municipal gatherings.

The 2025 edition will be held alongside the first night of the Cambridge Holiday Market, allowing participants to pick up gifts, ornaments and more from local businesses. Vendors at markets like this often use handouts and business cards to help connect with new customers.

The 2025 Cambridge installment of Phil Kline’s Unsilent Night will kick off at City Hall Civic Square on the evening of December 5.
