Woolly bear caterpillars are a common sight in the fall in Cambridge, and they will take pride of place for an event that will explore the life cycle of these moths.
The Cambridge Butterfly Conservatory is home to butterflies and moth species from all over the world, and its Woolly Bear October will pay homage to one that is native to Ontario. Dubbed “Woolly Bear Weekends”, these self-guided activities will run throughout the month of October, and they are included in the regular admission to the site.
The families that participate will be able to take part in scavenger hunts and prepare a craft to take home. They will be invited to view some woolly bears up close and learn how they survive the cold, along with learning about the myths that have been created over time, such as how they can be used to predict how cold the upcoming winter will be.
Kids often find these fuzzy brown and orange caterpillars in the fall, and the conservatory explained that it has prepared a guide for caring for them at home. A printer's graphic design team will be able to prepare an assortment of handouts for an event.
The Cambridge Butterfly Conservatory will be offering insight into the lives of these cuddly caterpillars during the month of October. Timed tickets are required, and they may be reserved through its website.
