McNabs Island, which is situated at the mouth of Halifax harbour, has a history that goes back centuries, and an upcoming guided tour will offer a glimpse into its past.
The teacher-led activity will depart from Eastern Passage near CFB Shearwater, and the transport to and from the island will be supplied by A&M Sea Charters in Fisherman’s Cove. The hike will visit McNabs south end, and tickets for the excursion may still be available.
The participants in the activity will discover how the site was utilized by the local Mi’kmaq First Nation and, after this, by both French and English settlers. They will visit Fort McNab and also the McNab homestead and family cemetery. Comfortable clothing and hiking shoes are recommended, as are sunscreen, fly repellent, water and a lunch. Only passengers who purchase tickets in advance will be allowed to board the boat for the outing.
