Even though winter may be here, there’s still lots to do in Halifax. One of these is to visit the city’s Museum of Natural History, which has two special
exhibits geared towards those with an interest in prehistoric creatures.
The institution will provide its visitors with an opportunity to take a big step back in time with the first offering, entitled Dinosaur Discoveries. The exhibit, on loan from the New York’s American Museum of Natural History, uses information obtained from both footprints and fossils that were left behind by the ancient reptiles. These were used to gather information about how they moved and interacted with their environment. Curator Jeff Gray explained that, though there is a lot of hard science being presented, it is done so in a way that is also kid-friendly and hands on.
The second dinosaur attraction is the return of “Sue”, which is the most complete T-rex skeleton that has even been found and reassembled. It has been all over the world, including Halifax one time before, and has proven to be extremely popular. It is the focal point of an exhibit named “A T-Rex Named Sue”. In some museums, Posters featuring key items from exhibits have been produced by a poster printing company to be sold in the museum’s gift shop to help raise funds so it can continue to provide new and exciting artifacts for its visitors.
