The rehearsal schedule for the opening of the 2011 Canada Games next month in Halifax is getting busy as the nation’s best musicians and dancers prepare for the spectacular Feb. 11 event.
Flagworks companies and banner printing services in Halifax are working overtime to prepare for the star-studded event which will showcase the talent and rich diversity of the host province, Nova Scotia.
The nationally broadcast opening ceremonies will take place at the Halifax Metro Centre and will feature the parade of athletes from all provinces and territories. Canadian talent Chantal Kreviazuk from Winnipeg, Jimmy Rankin, Rich Aucoin and many other artists from Nova Scotia are scheduled to perform. A new theme song for the Canada Winter Games will also be revealed.
The show will be produced by Patrick Roberge Productions, which has teamed up with Pilot Light Productions of Halifax to organize and choreograph the diverse line up of performers. The company recently coordinated the production of the 2010 Grey Cup Halftime Show and last year’s Paralympic Winter Games.
Auditions were held in early January 2011 at which time 50 dancers from Halifax and area were chosen to participate in the two-hour show.
The premier of the province, Darrell Dexter, says the two-week event in Halifax will be fantastic, adding that it’s “a proud and exciting time to be a Nova Scotian".
The games are a key component to the development of Winter Olympic athletes in Canada.
