Also known as systemic sclerosis, scleroderma is a rare autoimmune disease that affects approximately 40,000 Canadians, and the Halifax area will be joining other communities in the Maritimes in taking aim at the illness.
The organizers of the Make a Move for Scleroderma fundraiser will offer both in-person and virtual options, and the Halifax instalment will be held in DeWolf Park in Bedford. The registration fee is $35 each, and everyone is encouraged to walk, run or roll their way along the set course.
The overall goal for Atlantic Canada for the fundraiser is $45,000, and all help will be appreciated. It will be used to help fund research, as well as patient care and services, and to thank everyone for their support, T-Shirts with the activity’s Logo Design will be distributed to the registrants.
As many living with scleroderma may be immunocompromised, they may prefer to take part in the activity on their own. They can choose to garden, bike, walk, run or even hop in their canoe and ask their friends and family to support them. As blue is the signature colour for the organization, everyone is asked to wear a blue shirt and take photos of their efforts.
The 2022 scleroderma fundraiser will be held in person on June 18th, while the virtual fundraising portal will be open from May 2nd to June 30th. More information can be found on the organizer’s website.
