The upcoming municipal election from October 6 - 20 is about to get easier and more convenient, with various user friendly-ways to vote for the mayor and regional council this year.
Residents will receive their voter notification cards today, October 1, and advanced electronic voting will go from October 6 all the way through October 18, with e-voting poll locations will be available during that period for voters who need to add themselves to the list. Voters can simply log onto the website, enter their voting credentials, and identify their choice electronically.
Visually-impaired voters will also have the opportunity to ask for special templates available at all locations to help mark the ballot.
Measures taken to make voting easier and more convenient have perhaps been designed to increase voter turnout in the Halifax municipal elections. In 2008, the polls were only 37% - a decrease from the 2004 electoral turnout of 48%.
