Vaccinium crops such as blueberries and cranberries, as well as strawberries, will all be the focus of an upcoming Halifax conference aimed at the international community of small fruit growers and value-added processors.
Dalhousie University’s Faculty of Agriculture, alongside the International Society for Horticultural Science (ISHS), will be welcoming the world for the 13th International Vaccinium Symposium, which will cover these acidic-soil-loving plants. Its six-day schedule is filled with learning opportunities.
The function will open with a visit to several agricultural operations in the scenic Annapolis Valley, and after this, the three-day scientific program will begin. A day dedicated to touring wild blueberry, strawberry and cranberry crops, as well as processing, packing and shipping facilities, is in the works, and both regular and student registrations are available, including one for ISHS members. A virtual attendance option is also on offer for long-distance delegates.
