Celebrate In the Dead of Winter Music Festival

The In the Dead of Winter Music Festival will take place in Halifax from January 25-28, 2012. The annual festival presents acoustic-based musical acts, both well-known and those still looking for their big break. It is organized each year by local musicians and event producers. Each performance has a separate ticket price but a festival pass can be purchased for $230.

Musicians come from all over the Atlantic Region, the rest of Canada and the United States. Several venues in Halifax are taking part in the festival. Acts slated to appear include Shawn Colvin, Whitehorse, Zoe Lager, Martha Wainwright, the Moonshine Ramblers, Repartee and Caracol.

Halifax is becoming known as a music capital of Canada and the city is home to a number of annual music festivals such as the Halifax Pop Explosion Music Festival and the Scotia Festival of Music/ In the Dead of Winter is the only one that is specifically aimed at acoustic music. The festival will draw people from all over Canada and the United States. Halifax printing companies have been busy providing tickets and graphics to help celebrate this musical event.

Festivals such as this are important to communities; they bring thousands of people into the downtown core and those people spend money at local establishments. In tough economic times cities come to rely on entertainment and tourist dollars to help them survive, to sustain local businesses and to create or maintain jobs. The festival also gives unknown musicians a chance to shine and to be discovered by the public.
