Dartmouth book event to feature blind dates
An upcoming Dartmouth literary event will be looking to pair readers with a new favourite through a speed dating-inspired process.
The event will see participants given the chance to sample wrapped books based on their first line or “pick-up line”, and take or pass books based on only that first impression. Once everyone has picked their “date” for the evening, they can unwrap it and see what they have picked. Readers are encouraged to take pictures with their books for social media. The event will be hosted by New York Times bestselling author Cathryn Fox, whose books are known for their attention-grabbing first lines. Fox will be discussing the importance of first lines as well as her recent novel “The Blurbs and the Bees”.
Participants are encouraged to follow the “date” theme by dressing to impress. There will also be other giveaways and games to create a lively atmosphere. Events like this are often a key part of book marketing, alongside methods like flyer printing or podcasts. Blind Date with a Book is part of a regular series of events hosted by the Dartmouth Book Exchange, a used book store that aims to promote local authors and a love of books.
The “Blind Date with a Book” event will take place on the evening of June 12 at the Dartmouth Book Exchange. Pre-registration is required.
