The NL Folk Festival will be returning to St. John’s this July, highlighting the best folk and roots musicians from across the province.
Each of the three days will have a different headliner, with the featured artists being Matt Andersen, Serena Ryder and the Irish Descendents. The stages will also be filled with local favourites such as High & Lonesome, Salt Beef Junkies, and Sooky Couch Girls, all presenting their own take on folk music. In addition to the main stage, there will be a Traditions Tent presenting older variations of folk music, a Francophone Tent reflecting the province’s bilingual heritage, an Instrumental Tent for wordless music, and a Family Tent for younger audiences.
The festival will also feature a variety of workshops to allow visitors to learn about traditional music and craft. Workshop titles include “Songs & Yarn: Craft & Sing” and “Bring in the New: Writing contemporary folk songs paying homage to traditions”. The festival grounds will also include food trucks, wandering performers, and opportunity to stretch out in the park. The weekend will conclude with a traditional “Ode to Newfoundland”. Music festivals like this often use methods like poster printing and radio advertising to help attract local fans.
The 2025 NL Folk Festival will take place at Bannerman Park in St. John’s from July 11th to 13th.
