Winnipeg workshop to explore native planting

Incorporating native plants into residential landscapes benefits nature in a variety of ways, and a Winnipeg activity will show how adding even a few can make a big difference.

The Earl Grey Community Centre will be the location for a workshop that will explore the diverse range of choices out there when it comes to native plants. Attendees will learn how to choose the right plant for a particular location, and they will also discover how this can make a positive impact for area wildlife.

The function will explore how many species of insects and other animals have adapted to the indigenous flora found in an area, and how incorporating these species into a flowerbed or even balcony pot can provide food for wildlife. The value of choosing plants that offer successive bloom times will be discussed, and tips for keeping deer and other unwanted garden visitors at bay will be shared as well.

Taking part in classes gives gardeners an opportunity to get a jumpstart on the upcoming season. They also offer a chance for the attendees to meet their fellow green thumbs, and a local printer can provide small Promotional Products to hand out to the crowd.

This introduction to the joys of going native is scheduled for Monday, April 1, starting at 7:30 pm. It will be on offer at 360 Cockburn Street.
