The sight of chimney swifts “funneling” into a chimney to roost for the night has become a less common sight around Winnipeg, but a local workshop may help to bring back these small birds.
Marissa Berardwill be sharing her knowledge of chimney swifts during a session that will take place during the spring migration season. She will also introduce the efforts of The Manitoba Chimney Swift Initiative, and there will be other information provided as well.
The attendees will learn about how these small birds have adapted to roost in cavities, and have found that the chimneys that were part of many older homes suited their needs. They will discover ways they can protect and expand their habitat, and repairing old chimneys will be part of the discussion. Everyone will walk away with a better understanding of how they can help bring their population numbers up, and they will be invited to ask questions.
A workshop may provide a deep dive into a particular subject, and it can also provide an opportunity for those who are interested in a particular topic to meet others who are as well. A flyer printing company can be a helpful partner in spreading the word about an activity , and it will have options for almost any budget level.
This introduction to the chimney swift and how the public can lend them a helping hand will be on offer on May 6th. The Earl Grey Community Centre will be the venue for the occasion.
