A winter road race will return to Winnipeg for people of various participation levels.
The Hypothermic Half Marathon will offer participants a choice of three distances that accommodate a range of experience levels. Runners may register for a half marathon covering 21 km, a 10 km run, or a shorter 5 km option.
All races take place outdoors, using city streets and pathways shaped by winter conditions, making cold-weather preparation a central part of the event. Participants are required to bring their hydration and snacks during the event. Self-serve water stations will be available along the course, reflecting a streamlined approach to race support.
Participants receive a finisher’s medal, a commemorative blanket, and a tote bag. A post-race brunch is included for those partaking in person, with additional brunch tickets available at the time of sign-up. Runners who are unable to attend physically may choose a virtual participation option, allowing them to complete the distance independently while remaining part of the broader event.
Prizes are awarded through random draws, adding a layer of anticipation beyond finishing times.
Banner printing is often used at winter running events like this one to mark start and finish lines, identify distances, and help guide runners along the course.
The Hypothermic Half Marathon will start at the Norwood Community Centre, 87 Walmer St, Winnipeg, on February 22, 2026, at 7:30 am.
