Vancouver workshop to show public the fun of fungi

Mushrooms are a food source enjoyed by many people, and an upcoming workshop planned for Vancouver will give participants the knowledge and skills they need to be able to grow their own.

Garden Smart will be holding a Grow Your Own Mushrooms seminar, where people can learn more about fungi, the role they play in the ecosystem of the areas in which they grow, and also how to grow them in their own garden, backyard, or other space.

The instruction will be led by Chris Henly, who is an experienced educator and lover of both cultivated and wild mushrooms. He will demonstrate how to use mulch, wood, or sawdust as a growing medium for mushroom spawn, then grow a crop of the vegetable so that people can pick their own whenever they wish to do so. A Stationery printing enterprise can produce printed information sheets for this type of event that give further details for participants to take home with them.

The workshop will take place at the Lynn Park Ecology Centre, which is located at 3663 Park Road in North Vancouver. It has been planned for October 1, and will run from 1:00 pm until 2:30 pm. The cost to take part is $8.25.

Those who are interested in participating in the Grow Your Own Mushrooms class can register to do so through its Eventbrite listing, or by calling 604-990-3755.
