Vancouver welcomes spring in Japanese style

Vancouver will be ushering in spring with a celebration that highlights Japanese culture, food and handcrafts.

The VanDusen Botanical Gardens will be hosting its Sakura Days Japan Fair, which will give those who come out a chance to experience a traditional tea ceremony, as well as some of the food often featured during Japanese festivals.

There will also be demonstrations of cooking, premium sake to sample, guided walks to the blooming cherry trees, lessons in the art of Japanese style flower arranging, calligraphy and other arts and crafts, such as origami. Wide format printing can be used to create decorative Banners for events such as this.

The event is being presented through the Japan Fair Association of Vancouver, and is part of the Vancouver Cherry Blossom Festival. Those who wish to leave the car at home can reach the VanDusen Botanical Gardens via public transportation by using the SkyTrain Oakridge-41 Avenue Station, as well as bus routes 41, 17 and 43.

Tickets for the fair, which will take place on both April 9 and 10, have been priced at between $9 for VanDusen adult member to $27 for a general public family ticket. They can be purchased either online or at the gate.

Those who would like to find out more, or buy their tickets, are invited to visit the Sakura Days Japan Fair website.
