Vancouver to host silent film screening

The first movies to be shown in theatres were silent films, and an upcoming Vancouver initiative will bring back those days for local film buffs.

Buster Keaton starred in the movie “Go West”, and this is the picture that has been chosen for the April screening of the Silent Movie Mondays initiative. The venue doors will open an hour ahead of the curtain going up, and along with the movie, there will be some extras to add to the experience.

As part of the event, musical accompaniment will be provided by the theatre's Wurlitzer organ, which is the last organ in Canada that is still in use in its original theatre home. Afterwards, there will be a discussion about the show and cast, as well as how the industry has evolved over the years. Before the show, everyone can gather in the West Coast Lounge for some entertainment provided by the Gatsby Strutters Jazz Band. Tickets start at $16.90.

Historic theatres and other entertainment venues that host movie screenings may benefit from the services of a poster printing company. It can prepare vintage-style cinema Posters to help promote such special events to the public.

The Orpheum theatre has made plans to offer this retro experience to the community on April 8th. After this, the next Silent Movie Mondays date is June 3rd, and at this session, a series of Charlie Chaplin shorts will be screened.
