The Mental Health Awareness Club at UBC in Vancouver wants to raise the level of knowledge in the local community about depression, and it is hosting an event that it hopes will make a difference.
The group has organized a five-kilometer walk or run to help defeat depression, and also to raise funds that will be used to help support a variety of initiatives that support good mental health on both the campus and the city that surrounds it.
Registration begins at 10:00 am in the Aora Level of The Nest, which is located at 6133 University Boulevard. Once everyone has registered and gathered, there will be a welcome message and announcements from the organizers, followed by some warming up and then the race will start. The runners will begin first, followed by those who would prefer to walk.
Once they have completed the course, those who took part will be treated to refreshments and snacks and a chance to socialize with their fellow participants. There will also be prizes awarded to the teams who raised the most money for the cause. Brochures can be used during events such as this to further help educate the public about mental health issues.
There is no charge to take part, but the suggested donation is $15. The date for the walk is Match 12, and those who want to register or just find out more are welcome to visit the Defeat Depression UBC Vancouver website.Get a Free Quote for Brochures
