An initiative that will seek to make gardening accessible to as many Vancouver residents as possible has been organized for the West End Community Centre, and anyone who would like to sign up can do so now.
The West End Neighbourhood Food Network has partnered with Village Vancouver to offer the DIY Planter Box Giveaway program, and this has been designed to help the registrants get started at home horticulture. It is open to seniors, low-income residents and those who are immunocompromised or have other issues that affect their accessibility
Those who sign up will receive a free planter box, as well as seeds, soil and assembly instructions, and these will be made available for pick up at the West End Community Centre. To get involved in the initiative, members of the public who meet the criteria for inclusion are asked to register and then contact the host via email to indicate whether or not they are a member of a vulnerable population.
Offering programs that encourage people to engage in hands-on activities may provide a lot of benefits to a community. Printed instructions and tip sheets are some of the supporting materials that can be sourced from Stationery printers for such an initiative.
The pick-up date for the DIY Planter Box Kits will be February 20th at 870 Denman Street. They will be available from 12:00 pm until 1:00 pm.
