An oil spill that recently occurred in Vancouver’s English Bay has mostly been remediated.
On April 10th, Transport Canada used a plane to determine the status of the situation, and noted that most of it had been cleaned up. It is likely that less than six litres of the oil remained on the water.
It was expected that much of this would evaporate on its own. A Coast Guard official noted that so far, the birds and other marine life in the area seem to be doing well, and teams are still monitoring the situation in person on the water.
Signs have been erected around the area asking the public to stay away while the remediation operation is taking place. A printing company can produce these, as well as other materials such as Posters and Flyers that can be posted throughout the community to let residents know.
The Coast Guard official also remarked that only a small number of birds were impacted by the spill, which speaks to how quickly the situation was dealt with.
Any of the residue that was not able to be cleaned up while it was still on the ocean will be removed as soon as it reaches the shore.
