The art of working with stained glass has been practiced for centuries, and a workshop that works with this media will be hosted by Vancouver’s MakerLabs this fall.
The class will give those who are curious about the process of making stained glass a chance to get some hands-on experience . The students will each make their own sun catcher to take home with them, and will use the tools needed to complete their individual piece.
The instructor will guide the class through the steps of creating a small sun catcher using the designs provided. They will use the copper foil method, and will cut the glass, utilizing such tools as a glass grinder and soldering gun. The planners noted that as lead solder will be used to create the piece, the class is not recommended for pregnant women.
The registration fee for the workshop starts at $89, which includes the cost of the materials used. Stationery printers can prepare liability waivers and other Forms for an event like this, and these can be filled out by each person who participates. As there will be a half-hour break, the registrants are advised to bring along a snack or other refreshments.
This Introduction to the process of making stained glass will be offered to the public on October 6. The venue for the class will be located at 780 East Cordova Street.
