Vancouver birders invited to attend local event

Bird watchers in Vancouver are invited to attend a bird counting event this November.

Burnaby Lake offers lots of opportunities to view birds, and the Burnaby Lake Park Association is welcoming birdwatchers to its Piper Spit Bird Count. The species that can be found at the site range from common to rare, and participants in the bird count may be lucky enough to spot a “lifer”.

A park interpreter will be on hand to help the attendees identify the species they see, and they will also be able to offer tips for spotting their feathered friends. Those who plan on participating are encouraged to bring a pair of binoculars and to dress appropriately for the weather. It is a free event, open to those who are 15 years of age and over.

This sort of session offers a fun introduction to bird watching, and it can also be helpful to experienced birders who would like to take their hobby to the next level. Organizers of this type of event often offer participants Notebooks and promotional Pens to make it easy for them to jot down the species they encounter, and these can be obtained from local Print shops.

Registrants for the Piper Spit Bird Count, which will be held on November 10th, are asked to arrive at Burnaby Lake Nature House by 9:00am. Registration will close at 12:00pm on November 9th.
