Trees a reason to celebrate

The holidays are rapidly approaching and with that come several events designed to get people excited about them and to think about how to help those who are less fortunate. Thankfully, there are always several events going on in Vancouver at this time of year that are designed to help on that front.

One special event which takes place every year is the Parade of Trees. Individuals, corporations, community organizations, and civic groups purchase and decorate a tree for $250. The finished trees are then displayed on Wallace Way in Shipbuilder's Square for the public to see and enjoy.

This year, the Parade of Trees is supporting the Harvest Project and Hollyburn Family Services, Youth Safe House. The Christmas by the Sea Parade of Trees will take place from November 27 - 29. Sponsorships of $1,000 are also available and sponsors will be recognized in advertising and at a reception. Organizers of this event are likely to be working with Vancouver printing companies, perhaps to create a flyer which will be sent out to various residents.

On December 5, the Parade of Trees reception will take place at the Pinnacle Hotel at the Pier from 5:00 pm- 8:00 pm. Awards will be handed out for the three best decorated trees. Guests will enjoy appetizers, a cash bar, and entertainment. Donations of unwrapped toys or non-perishable food will be gratefully accepted. Tickets are free for North Vancouver Chamber of Commerce members, $25 for one guest, or $40 for non-members. For more information, call 604-987-4488.
