People who live in Vancouver and want to make environmentally friendly choices while supporting their local food producers now have access to a tool that will make it much easier to do just that.
A new app is available for smartphones that shows which locally produced foods are in season, where someone can go to get them and even how to prepare them. It can be used anywhere in the province.
Called “ We Heart Local”, the program is a network of over 300 farmers, farm markets, restaurants and other food service providers that have committed to making it easier for people to make eating choices that are not only healthy for themselves, but also the environment and the economy.
To be listed on the app, restaurants must have at least five menu items that use local ingredients, while market vendors and food trucks must sell at least 20 items or have 50% of their menu be locally sourced. “We Heart Local” stickers will identify these products and menu items.
For those who prefer to do their cooking at home, the app features plenty of recipes created by professional BC chefs.
The program is a cooperative effort between the BC Dairy Association, the Provincial Ministry of Agriculture, producers groups and BCAC.
A project like this can be made even more successful by using promotional materials created by Print companies. These let consumers know about the program and how to make good use of it.Get a Free Quote for Print
