Anyone who visits Vancouver can’t help but notice the Banners that are hung on many of the streets. These Banners announce city events, neighbourhoods, charitable campaigns and annual events. Banner printing is used to draw the public’s attention to it and to create an environment in certain areas that informs and excites them.
The Vancouver Business Improvement Association (VBIA) promotes a street banner and flag program. This program is open to local businesses, non-profit groups, charitable organizations and special events organizations. Those who wish to hand a street banner must apply to the related program.
There are four programs: BIA Banners which are used by the VBIA only; the User Group Program for Annual or Once Only Functions; Neighbourhood Society Banners, for specific neighbourhoods such as Gastown; and Flag Islands, which are flags that promote awareness of an event or a cause. There is a $200 application fee for Banners with commercial content or contain a logo, plus a $20 per month rental fee. Specific hardware that is needed to hang the Banners cost $230 per pole. Banner with no commercial content and do not feature a logo are free from application and rental feels.
Street Banners help to make a city street look more welcoming and attractive. They offer a change from the same old grey poles that we see in most city streets. A colourful banner promoting a certain area or event draws the eye; there is something about a colourful banner fluttering in a summer breeze that draws people’s attention.Get a Free Quote for Banners
