Literary patrons will be pleased to know that Vancouver BC’s lost gems, four fiction novels, four non-fiction novels and two Books of poetry will finally be re-printed and sold later this year to mark the city’s 125th anniversary. The Books, ranging in subject about everything from racial prejudice, to unsolved Vancouver's murders to the social and economic conditions of pre-first World War I Vancouver, form an integral part of the city’s literary history and written expression.
The list of local authors includes Dorothy Livesay, D.M. Fraser, Betty Lambert, Bertrand W. Sinclair, Edward Starkins, Howard White, Rolf Knight, Daphne Marlatt and Carole Itter. The titles range from the 1920’s to the 1970’s. All of the re-published works celebrate the city’s rich history and depict historical moments within their pages.
Printing services to mark this special event include the advertising of the Books to commemorate the city’s anniversary, the publication of author biography information as well as actual book printings. A special publication, called the 125 Legacy Books Collection, will be released in the autumn. The titles themselves were chosen through submissions by various publishers in addition to advisory committee suggestions.
This important literary event will doubtlessly be of interest to local companies offering printing services in the Vancouver BC area, since they will not only help advertise the publication of these printed literary gems, but also become involved in advertising Vancouver’s 125th celebration. Advertising the event helps put the city’s rich local history in permanent ink.
