Printing companies roll with Domtar paper push

One of North America’s largest manufacturers and distributors of uncoated, free sheet paper has launched a campaign to promote paper as sustainable, purposeful and necessary with the full support of printing companies in Vancouver. Domtar Corporation’s “Paper Because” campaign was launched Sept. 23, 2010 in media outlets throughout Canada and the U.S. in response to the global trend to go green by reducing or eradicating paper usage.

In a release issued by the paper giant, John D. Williams, president and CEO of Domtar, said his company is a global leader in responsible reforestation and paper re-purposing. Williams reinforced the fact that sometimes there is no substitute for paper, such as Books and magazines that you can hold in your hands. The campaign will reinforce several facts about paper. Most Canadians find it easier to read words on paper versus a computer screen and the fact that paper is the preferred media for at least 60 per cent of senior executives. Paper is also among the most recycled materials on the planet.

Printing companies in Vancouver have applauded Domtar’s promotion to advertise responsible use of paper as well as its pledge to reduce green house gas emissions in both the manufacturing and transportation of paper supplies in North America.

“Paper Because” ads will appear in The Globe & Mail, The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal and many trade publications subscribed to by Vancouver printing companies. Despite their push for the consumption of paper, Domtar officials indicate they will also post videos online and use social media.
