New pesticide laws have come into effect for Vancouver and the rest of the province that affect the way some property owners care for their lawns and gardens.
In an effort to ensure that all those who apply certain chemicals know how to do so safely, the province has made it mandatory for private land owners to complete on online course and obtain a certificate before they can purchase them. They may also find that they are kept under lock and key at the retailers who choose to sell them.
These new regulations do not apply for those who will be using these pesticides or herbicides on gardens upon which they are growing food, and they do not supersede the current municipal bylaws. A poster printing company can create promotional materials that can be used in situations like this to help educate the public about the new regulations. These can be hung wherever these products are sold.
According to Tyler Evans, who is a plant pharmacist, these new regulations are smart idea, as they will help to ensure that the public knows more about the chemicals they plan on using and also how to apply them safely. He went on to say that he hopes this will encourage people to choose organic methods of pest control, which he noted are safer and highly effective.
Several other provinces, such as Ontario and Manitoba, have placed a complete ban on the use of agricultural chemicals for cosmetic purposes.
