New development on the way for Vancouver

A site that’s located near Vancouver’s Oakridge Centre is set to be the new home of the largest development on the Cambie Corridor.

The plans for the new buildings, which will include largely residential spaces, also have plenty of room for a park, a variety of shops and service providers and also a childcare centre.

The site was previously the home of the Oakridge Transit Centre that moved in 2006 to a new location. It was considered to be surplus land, so the transit authority asked the city if they wished to develop it.

Part of the plan for the site includes meeting the requirement that at least 20 percent of it will need to be affordable housing. This could potentially mean that as much as 250,000 square feet could become available for this purpose, which would translate into between 250 to 300 units. According to a report prepared for city council, at least 50 percent of this would be suitable for families.

The report also states that a goal for the project is that is be friendly to pedestrians and cyclists, providing lots of access for both. A company that creates Presentation Folders can produce ones for this type of development that includes Brochures and other items that provide information for the public, members of the press and anyone else who may be interested in learning more about it.

Anyone who would like to comment on the plan is invited to attend the meeting of the Standing Committee on City Finance and Services, which is scheduled to take place on October 27th.
