Many people today are finding that they are either allergic or sensitive to gluten in their diet. It is certainly hard to ignore it when it is found in the majority of the food we eat such as bread, French fries and processed luncheon meats. However, more and more foods are now available which are gluten-free. Shows such as the Gluten Free Expo coming up in Vancouver help to educate the public on gluten and its effects on the body.
The Expo will feature over 100 vendors selling items like gluten-free food and cookbooks, a cooking demonstration from Kathy Smart, sample foods, tips of changing to a gluten-free diet, and speakers. Selected orators are Nadine Grzeskowiak and Sheila Fetter, who will be talking on such topics as ‘Guts, brain and skin: how gluten affects your entire body’ and ‘A closer look at food labels and labeling.’
Vendors who wish to take part in the show can rent a 10 x 10 foot booth for $450, featuring a 6 x 2 foot skirted table. Vendors will also be given the opportunity to place a promotional item in the gift bag that will be given out to those attending. No doubt they will be working with Vancouver printing companies to create items to place in the bag.
The Gluten Free Expo will take place at the Vancouver Convention Centre on January 13 from 10:00 am - 5:00 pm. Admission is $9 in advance or $12 at the door, and children aged 10 and under are admitted free. The first 2,000 through the gates will receive a reusable shopping bag containing various promotional items.
