Fundraising bike ride to take in east coasts sweeping vistas

The morning of June 14th marked the start of a very important journey for cyclists from Vancouver and all across the province.

Over 3,000 gathered at Cloverdale Fairgrounds to start their trip, which will take them on a ride of over 200km to help raise funds for the BC Cancer Foundation.

The route follows the coastline between Vancouver and Seattle, and participants can choose between the ‘classic route’, which closely hugs the shoreline, or they can opt for the ‘challenge route’, which takes a more inland path on back roads and along the foothills of the Cascade Mountains.

A turnaround map has also been provided for those wishing to make it a round trip.

According to the foundation’s president, nearly everyone taking part has a personal reason for doing so. Some have beaten cancer themselves and some are currently battling it, while still others have lost family member or friend to the disease.

The ride raised over $9 million, which will be used to help support research, and to enhance care and treatment for those battling this illness.

It is estimated that two out of every five Canadians will develop some form of cancer, and that in BC alone, 24,000 new cases are diagnosed each year.

An event like this not only raises much needed funds, but it is also a chance for those taking part to honor people they have lost. Poster printing companies can help to pay homage by creating Banners and other printed items that help to raise awareness of the event, and show just how important it is that people lend their support.
