21st Century Flea Market will bring the collectors

The 21st Century Flea Market will take place on November 13 at the Croatian Cultural Centre in Vancouver. General admission is $4 from 10 am to 3 pm; $20 will get you an early-bird admission from 7 to 10 am. Children under the age of 13 are admitted free when accompanied by an adult.

The flea market takes place every other month and never fails to incite excitement amongst collectors. Those who collect ephemera in the Vancouver area will be interested in seeing for themselves how postcard and Stationery printing styles have changed over the years; there will no doubt be many examples for sale. 175 vendors will be displaying their wares on 185 tables; items will likely include household items, Postcards, memorabilia, prints, Books, vintage advertising and Christmas items.

In addition to the flea market, Gale Pirie will appraise your brought items. Items must be small enough to carry and are limited to three per person. Having items appraised will cost $8 for one and $20 for three. Gale Pirie is a member of the Canadian Personal Property Appraisers Group and recently toured Canada as an appraiser for the Canadian Antiques Roadshow.

Flea markets seem to becoming more popular as the years go by. It’s not just collectors or antique store owners anymore who make a point of attending them; many people believe in recycling items and would rather buy used than new. They also will be on the lookout for treasures that the seller may have overlooked, such as a Picasso painting hidden behind that velvet painting of Elvis.
