Many people are not aware that it is possible to grow food crops in an urban setting, but a Vancouver workshop will explain this and will offer tips for successful city gardening.
A beginner-level food growing course has been planned by WENFN West End Urban Garden Club and The Village Vancouver, and this learning opportunity will introduce some of the basics of home horticulture. Advance registration is strongly suggested, and a request has been made that people follow social distancing protocols and stay at home altogether if they are feeling unwell.
The session will offer an introduction to some of the fundamentals of vegetable growing, and soil blends, seed choice, fertilizing and plant care are all on the agenda. The registrants can learn about both bed and container gardening, and they will also find out how to harvest their first crops. Everyone is asked to bring along a bottle of water, and all levels of knowledge are welcome.
At the end of the workshop, the learners will each go home with a packet of seeds. Print shops can prepare Envelopes printed with basic instructions that can be used to package small items like seeds, making it easier for the recipients to achieve growing success.
This introduction to vegetable gardening will be on offer on April 28th. The Denman Room at the West End Community Centre will be the venue for the function.
