Mother Nature’s artistry brings colour to the days of autumn, and a Vancouver workshop will help to capture the beauty of the season.
Botanical dyes can be produced in a variety of ways. Malwa East will be hosting an event that will teach a group of learners how they can utilize them to make items using techniques such as pressing, contact printing, steaming and even immersion dyeing.
The three-day-long learning opportunity will use a variety of common plants to produce colourful dyes, and the participants will start from the ground floor up. They will discover the fundamentals of how plant-based pigments can be transferred to cloth and other materials, and the group will learn about both substantive dyes and ones that require a mordant. Indigo overdyeing will be included in the discussion as well.
The instructor for this weekend class will be Natalie Grambow, and the registration fee is $350. An instruction manual can give the students in a class like this more ideas so they can keep experimenting with plant-based dyes, and these can be sourced from area Stationery printers.
