Known as “Ikebana”, this Japanese style of flower arranging is often divided into different schools, and a Vancouver workshop series will offer an introduction to all three.
The Roundhouse Community Arts and Recreation Centre has scheduled a series of classes that will introduce the basics of the Ikenobo, Sangetsu and Sogetsu schools, and the registration fee for each is $38.61. This includes any fees and taxes, and the session will run for one hour.
The instructor in each of the classes will explain the history behind the style, as well as its meaning and cultural significance. The Ikenobo school is the oldest, while the other two hail from more modern times. All of the materials needed for the sessions are included, and no previous experience in floral design is required. The attendees will be able to take their creations home with them at the end of the activity.
