Vancouver Civic Theatres (VCT) will continue hosting tours at the Orpheum theatre this summer, which Vancouver locals can enjoy for free.
Architect Marcus Priteca designed the Orpheum, which was opened to the public on November 8, 1927. In 1979, the theatre was officially recognized as a National Historic Site of Canada.
The BC Entertainment Hall of Fame will be guiding these 90-minute tours of the historic Orpheum theatre. Throughout each tour, Vancouver guests will see notable features of the theatre, including the Mighty Wurlitzer Organ and 140 vintage crystal chandeliers from Czechoslovakia.
Participants will learn the history of the Orpheum, along with stories about the theatre, such as how Frank Sinatra was nearly told to leave after he broke some lights while practicing golfing swing techniques. To promote similar events, tour hosts regularly use poster printing to put up printouts featuring colourful graphics that showcase events and draw the notice of passers-by.
While reservations are not required, attendees are advised to reserve a spot in advance. Walk-ins will only be permitted until each tour reaches 30 individuals and runs out of space for additional people. Anyone who wishes to join the tour can register online for their chosen date at no cost.
The Orpheum tours will take place between 11:00 am and 12:30 pm on Saturdays and Thursdays throughout the month of August and September, until they conclude on Saturday, September 24.
