The Downtown Eastside in Vancouver will be hosting its 19th annual Eastside Heart of the City Festival this year.
This 12-day festival includes both in-person as well as virtual events. This year’s theme celebrates community. During the festival, attendees will have several opportunities to listen and speak with artists, community activists and organizations that help support the residents of the Downtown Eastside. Poster printing can help shed awareness and light to important community events such as this one.
There will be events indoors, as well as outdoors, with more than 100 in total. Some of the events include live music, poetry, storytelling and dance. For those history buffs, there will also be opportunities to listen to historical talks and partake in guided historical walks of Downtown Eastside.
Some of the key highlights of the festival will include featuring the works of poets past and present from Downtown Eastside. The Carnegie Newsletter will be announcing the recipient of the Sandy Cameron Memorial Award. There will also be an unveiling of a community banner called ‘The Gathering’, where local artists have added an additional seven new panels. The banner, which is featured prominently during special events at Carnegie Theatre, will take centre stage at the festival.
