Women of Distinction luncheon to take place in Richmond

The nominations for this year’s Ethel Tibbits Women of Distinction Awards have been announced with 27 women up for recognition.

The awards event, which is affectionately known as ‘the Ethels’, was founded by and is presented by the Richmond Review. It is named after the woman who was the first publisher and editor of the paper.

The awards luncheon, which will take place in early March, pays tribute to women of all ages and professions who have made a lasting mark in their community.

There are several categories of awards to be given out at the luncheon, including Arts, Community Volunteer, Business and Youth. The winners will be women who have exhibited leadership in their field and those who go beyond what is expected of them to make a difference in their community. The general public were encouraged to nominate women they felt deserved the awards.

Proceeds from the luncheon go to Nova Transition House; a shelter for women and children who have fled from domestic violence. Since 1994, the luncheon has raised over $250,000 for local women's charities with most of the funds going to the shelter.

It is very likely that the event’s organizers are working with Richmond printing companies to ensure those in the area are aware of the upcoming luncheon. By sending out a flyer, the organizers can encourage more people to attend; perhaps increasing the funds raised.

The luncheon will take place at the Radisson Vancouver Airport on March 8 from 11:30am - 2:00pm. Tickets are $50 each. For more information, call 604-247-3700.
