Traditional festival returns to the Vancouver area

The next Winter Solstice Lantern Festival is taking place in Vancouver this December. It is a joint presentation of the Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Garden and the Secret Lantern Society.

The festival is an ancient Chinese tradition that celebrates the year’s longest day. In China, gifts are exchanged on that day, as it is considered to be an important day on the calendar.

This event will feature a display of handcrafted lanterns in many shapes and sizes – all of which will then be lit up to bring light to one of the darkest nights of the year. There are also set to be traditional Chinese musical performances. Guests will likewise have the chance to purchase ‘dragon tea’, which is a spicy drink, and a variety of Chinese treats. Members of the Classical Chinese Garden will receive early entry and free refreshments.

This festival will no doubt attract visitors from all over, including nearby Richmond. Flyer printing companies may have provided advertising materials to distribute throughout the region.

The Winter Solstice Lantern Festival is taking place at the Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Garden on December 24th from 6:30pm - 10:00pm, and members will be admitted beginning at 6:00pm. Tickets are $5 each or $10 for a family of four. Call the Garden at 604-662 3207 for more information about the evening's activities.
