Take a walk with your dog for a good cause

The Scotiabank and BC SPCA ‘Paws for a Cause’ walk will take place at Garry Point Park on September 9 from 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm. Entry fees are $25 for adults or free for those aged 17 and under. Proceeds go towards the BC SPCA and walkers are encouraged to bring their dogs. Participants will receive a T-shirt and a fundraising package.

When registering participants estimate how much money they can earn through pledges for the cause. The walk itself will take place from 3:00 pm - 4:00 pm. There will be plenty of activities before the walk, including a dog bowl-licking contest, a look-a-like contest, a coloring contest for kids, a kids’ scavenger hunt, a 50/50 draw, musical entertainment, demonstrations from Dog Smart and the RCMP, face painting, games, nail trims, and an ‘ask a vet’ booth. Door prizes will also be awarded. All in all, it will be a busy afternoon for people and their pets.

No doubt those organizing the ‘ask a vet’ booth will be working with Richmond printing companies to prepare. They may want to be able to provide literature that those who have common questions can take home with them. Brochures are relatively inexpensive and are always appealing to those who like to collect free information at such events. They are very portable and any leftovers can be saved for the next event.

The BC SPCA relies mostly on the public for their funding, so events like this are very important to the organization which serves over 32,000 animals every year.
