Chinese New Year is coming up, with this year being Year of the Horse. To celebrate, several events will be taking place in the city of Richmond.
Most of the New Year's events are taking place at the Aberdeen Centre. Festivities will begin with the Flower and Gift Fair, which began last Friday. It features both Chinese related and regular merchandise for sale from a variety of vendors. January 30 will be ‘countdown night’, which is to be followed by live entertainment and a live countdown to the New Year. On January 31, visitors will be able to enjoy the Golden Dragon and lion dances as they take to the area.
The main celebration will be the Chinese New Year of the Horse Weekend Cultural Celebrations. This will feature entertainment from dance groups such as the Vancouver Academy of Dance and the Colors of Dance Academy, the Vancouver Cantonese Opera and the Chinese Music Association.
Many communities throughout the world celebrate Chinese New Year and the events usually have a very large turnout. In order to let people know about such events in Richmond, local printing companies often supply organizers with products such as Flyers and Brochures in order to spread the word.
The Chinese New Year of the Horse Cultural Celebrations will take place at the Aberdeen Centre from February 1 to 2, and are free to attend. To find out more information about planned activities during the weekend, call 604-270-1234.
