The village of Steveston is preparing to celebrate Christmas in style again, with several events scheduled to mark the start of the holiday season.
The Steveston Christmas Craft Fair is the first to take place. It has more than 160 vendor tables, on which artisans will be selling their homemade crafts. The fair is free but visitors are encouraged to donate cash or non-perishable food items to the Steveston Community Society.
The next day, Christmas in Steveston Village gets into high gear with the arrival of Santa Claus by boat. There will also be lighting displays, carolers and horse-drawn carriage rides; the cost of a carriage ride is a suggested donation of $5 to the Richmond Christmas Fund.
On the same day as Santa’s arrival, the 4th annual Christmas at the Cannery and Festival of Trees celebration begins. This event runs for more than three weeks and is a presentation of the Steveston Merchants Association. Santa will be on hand to talk to the kids. The Festival features trees decorated by local merchants and guests vote on their favorites by giving donations to the Richmond Food Bank.
Those who are decorating trees might consider investing in products such as Banners from Richmond printing companies. A colorful banner can be wrapped around a tree just like a garland or a ribbon.
The Steveston Christmas Craft Fair takes place at the Steveston Community Center on Saturday from 10:00am-4:00pm. For more information, call 604-238-8080.
Christmas at the Cannery will run from December 1 to 23 at the Gulf of Georgia Cannery from 10:00am-5:00pm each day. Call 604-664-9009 to learn more about activities.
