Christmas is here in Steveston

The festival season has kicked off in Steveston with the 5th annual Festival of Trees at the Gulf of Georgia Cannery National Historic Site. It is presented by the Steveston Merchants Association and will continue until the end of December.

Several area business owners and community organizations have decorated the trees that are on display. The public can vote for their favorite by donating nonperishable food for the Richmond Food Bank. The winner will be announced at the Cannery Farmers Market on December 20.

There is an admission fee for the Cannery, but it is free on the 1st and 3rd Sunday of the month due to the Cannery Farmers' Market. The market is a showcase for local artisans and food producers.

The Christmas celebrations will continue with the 12th annual Christmas in Steveston Village. Santa will arrive by boat on December 6 and children will be able to chat with him; there will also be a classic car cruise and horse carriage rides.

Some of the tree decorators from Richmond may invest in banner printing services to help make their trees look more festive.

The Festival of Trees will be at the Gulf of Georgia Cannery until December 31; it will be closed on December 24 and 31. Admission is $7.80 for adults, $6.55 for seniors and $3.90 for youth; a family pass is $19.60. Call 604-665-9009 to learn more.
